Dental IT Support in Vancouver: a person answers, not voicemail

Your Vancouver clinic is busy. The IT phone rings into voicemail.

Our local Vancouver team comes on site. Many issues get fixed fast in a group chat with your staff. When we restore a failed server from local storage, it has taken less than 2 hours. From $55 per PC per month.

24/7 emergency line

Our regular hours are Monday to Friday, 7am to 5pm MT. For emergencies we’re 24/7 on the same number, (604) 813-7881, and it’s always answered by a person. Call us at (604) 813-7881 or email hello <at> bensonhunt <dot> com.

Who provides dental IT support in Vancouver?

Benson Hunt provides dental IT support in Vancouver through a local team of IT specialists and technicians who come to your clinic. We look after practice software such as Dentrix and Open Dental, imaging, servers, backups and cybersecurity. Many issues are fixed quickly in a group chat with remote access. Our Vancouver office is at #250-1766, 997 Seymour St.

A dental clinic runs on software, imaging, a server and a lot of cables, and you only notice when it stops. We want to be the team you call then, and we explain things in plain words. For the full picture, see our dental IT support overview.

  • 24/7emergency line (604) 813-7881, always answered by a person

Dentist or office manager? Here’s the short version.

If you own the clinic

  • Downtime costs chairs. When we restore a failed server from local storage, it has taken less than 2 hours.
  • Patient data stays recoverable. Backup copies are locked for 30 days, with an encrypted offsite copy right here in Vancouver, BC.
  • One flat rate. $55 to $125 per PC per month, in writing before you commit.

If you run the office

  • No more voicemail. A person answers (604) 813-7881, 24/7 for emergencies.
  • Someone local comes in. Our Vancouver team is on Seymour St and comes to your clinic.
  • We call the vendors. Imaging and practice software calls are handled for you.

Why it matters, in plain words

Three pieces of tech every Vancouver clinic should ask about, and why.

Hyper-V

Why one dead server shouldn’t send patients home

On Hyper-V, your server is a set of files that can come back on other hardware. That’s how we get a failed server back from local storage in less than 2 hours.

Immutable backups

Why ransomware hunts for your backups first

Delete the backups and the clinic has to pay or rebuild. Copies locked for 30 days can’t be changed or deleted in that time.

Business firewall

Why waiting room Wi-Fi shouldn’t share a network with charts

A separate Wi-Fi name isn’t a separate network. A business firewall and VLANs keep guests on the internet and away from your server.

On-site dental IT in Vancouver

We lead with on-site visits. IT specialists and technicians from our local Vancouver team come to your clinic, and we plan visits around your schedule and your patients.

Visits help most with placing workstations, sensors and printers, linking CBCT and pan x-ray machines to the network and practice software, checking the server and network cabinet, reviewing renovation plans, and chasing faults that are hard to see remotely. Our Vancouver office is at #250-1766, 997 Seymour St, Vancouver BC V6B 3M1.

Group chat and remote access for Vancouver clinics

Most problems are quicker to solve over a secure connection, and monitoring helps us catch trouble before it stops a day of patients.

What we support at Vancouver dental clinics

We look after the whole stack, from the practice software on the screen to the server and backups behind it.

Software: Dentrix, ClearDent, Dolphin, Tracker, ABELDent, Curve Dental, AkituOne and Open Dental. Imaging: Dexis, Vatech and Apex sensors, Scan-X PSP plate scanners, and CBCT and pan x-ray machines (the network and IT side), including Vatech, Sirona and KaVo.

Security and backups: a Cisco Meraki MX firewall with Advanced Security, web filtering from Cisco (or an equivalent if price is a concern) and Huntress, with 24/7 monitoring. Backups follow a 3-2-1 plan with an immutable copy, locked for 30 days so it can’t be changed or deleted in that time. We spot check multiple copies and test a full recovery every year, because RAID alone isn’t a backup.

We handle the IT side of your practice software. For feature questions, call the software vendor.

BC privacy rules and your clinic’s IT

Privacy rules are your clinic’s responsibility, and we don’t give legal advice. We can help with the technical safeguards, and we point you to official sources.

Rules change, so please check current rules before you rely on anything here. These are the places we would look first:

  • BC’s private sector privacy law, the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
  • The standards of the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP). It took over from the College of Dental Surgeons of BC.
  • Guidance from the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for British Columbia (OIPC BC).

Questions to bring to your lawyer or the college

  • Do we need a written agreement with an IT provider who can see patient records?
  • How long must we keep records and backups?
  • What do we do, and who do we tell, if there is a breach?
  • Where is it acceptable to store patient data?

On our side, we set up encryption, multi-factor sign in, patching, access reviews, logging and tested backups.

This is general information, not legal advice.

A Vancouver renovation, start to finish

Do you support Open Dental and Dentrix?

Yes, along with ClearDent, Tracker, Curve Dental, AkituOne, Dolphin and ABELDent. We handle the IT side: server, workstations, network, backups and updates. Feature questions go to the software vendor.

Can you connect CBCT and pan x-ray machines?

We support the network and IT side of CBCT and pan machines, including brands like Vatech, Sirona and KaVo. Mechanical repairs stay with the manufacturer or your equipment supplier.

What do BC privacy rules mean for my IT?

Rules to check include PIPA, the standards of the BCCOHP and guidance from the OIPC BC. We build technical safeguards, and your lawyer or the college can advise on the legal side. Please check current rules, because this isn’t legal advice.

What should we do if ransomware hits the clinic?

Disconnect the affected computers and call us right away. We help contain it, check your backups, restore clean systems and work out what was touched. Ask your lawyer and check the OIPC BC about any reporting duties.

How much does dental IT support cost in Vancouver?

Managed support is a flat monthly rate of $55 to $125 per PC per month, with help desk, monitoring, on-site visits, 3-2-1 backups and more included. The one-time free break/fix assessment has a $150 travel fee in the City of Vancouver area. Managed clients don’t pay a travel fee. Projects such as cabling are quoted separately. We don’t do break/fix work except in special circumstances, but we offer one free break/fix assessment. See our support plans.
