Dentist or office manager? Here’s the short version.

If you own the clinic

  • Downtime costs chairs. When we restore a failed server from local storage, it has taken less than 2 hours.
  • Patient data stays recoverable. Backup copies are locked for 30 days, and no one can delete them early. The encrypted offsite copy stays in Canada, in Vancouver, BC.
  • One flat rate. $55 to $125 per PC per month, in writing before you commit.

If you run the office

  • No more voicemail. A person answers (604) 813-7881, 24/7 for emergencies.
  • Someone local comes in. Our Calgary technicians are local. There’s no walk-in office, so we come to your clinic.
  • Quick fixes in your group chat. Many issues are solved fast with remote access.

Why it matters, in plain words

Three pieces of tech every Calgary clinic should ask about, and why.

RAID 10

Why a dead drive shouldn’t stop the schedule

Drives fail. With RAID 10 and hot-swap bays, a failed drive is replaced while the front desk keeps booking. It still isn’t a backup.

Immutable backups

Why ransomware hunts for your backups first

Delete the backups and the clinic has to pay or rebuild. Our copies are locked for 30 days, and no one, not even us, can delete them early.

Business firewall

Why waiting room Wi-Fi shouldn’t share a network with charts

A separate Wi-Fi name isn’t a separate network. A business firewall and VLANs keep guests on the internet and away from your server.

On-site dental IT in Calgary

We lead with on-site visits. IT specialists and technicians from our local Calgary team come to your clinic, and we plan visits around your schedule and your patients.

A visit makes sense for setting up workstations, sensors and printers, connecting CBCT and pan x-ray machines to the network, checking the server, rack and cabling, walking a renovation before the walls close, and chasing problems that are hard to see from a screen.

Group chat and remote access for Calgary clinics

Many issues are fixed quickly in a dedicated group chat with your clinic’s users, plus remote access to the computer or server.

What we support at Calgary dental clinics

We look after the full stack: the practice software, the imaging, and the server, network and backups underneath.

Software: Dentrix, ClearDent, Dolphin, Tracker, ABELDent, Curve Dental, AkituOne and Open Dental. Imaging: Dexis, Vatech and Apex sensors, Scan-X PSP plate scanners, and CBCT and pan x-ray machines (the network and IT side), including Vatech, Sirona and KaVo.

Security and backups: a Cisco Meraki MX firewall with Advanced Security, web filtering from Cisco (or an equivalent if price is a concern) and Huntress, with 24/7 monitoring. Backups follow a 3-2-1 plan with an immutable copy, locked for 30 days so it can’t be changed or deleted in that time. We spot check multiple copies and test a full recovery every year.

We take care of the IT side of your practice software. For feature questions, the software vendor is the right call.

Alberta privacy rules for Calgary clinics

Calgary clinics are in Alberta, so Alberta health privacy rules are the ones to check. Privacy law is your clinic’s responsibility, and we don’t give legal advice.

Rules change, so please check current rules with the official sources. Here is a short guide to what to look at.

  • Health Information Act (HIA). Dentists are custodians of patient health information. Ask your lawyer whether you need a written information manager agreement with your IT provider.
  • Privacy impact assessments (PIAs). Ask the OIPC and the CDSA when a new system or a change in how you handle health information needs one. Your clinic is responsible for completing the PIA on a reasonable schedule. We work with lawyer Ritchie Po, part of our MSP, to assist with your PIA.
  • Breach reporting. The OIPC explains who to tell and when, if a breach could put a patient at risk.

We build the technical side: encryption, multi-factor sign in, patching, access reviews, logging and tested backups, and we help you write a simple breach response plan.

This is general information, not legal advice.

Dentrix, ClearDent, Tracker, Curve Dental, AkituOne and Open Dental, along with Dolphin and ABELDent. We handle the IT side. Feature questions go to the software vendor.

What does the Health Information Act mean for my IT?

Alberta dentists are custodians under the HIA. The rules can touch written agreements with IT providers, privacy impact assessments and breach reporting. Please check current rules with your lawyer, the CDSA and the OIPC. We build the technical safeguards, and this isn’t legal advice.

Disconnect the affected computers and call us right away. We help contain it, check backups, restore clean systems and work out what was touched. The OIPC breach page explains reporting, and your lawyer can advise.
