Who Owns Your Records: signing records and cloud breaches
Your documents and signing records, under your control
Where your signing records live, what happens when a cloud vendor is breached, and how your firm can keep them on its own server in Canada.
Who owns your records
Their cloud, their rules. Their breach, your problem.
Cloud signing tools like DocuSign and Adobe Sign keep your documents and signing records on the vendor’s servers, under the vendor’s terms. Those records show who signed, their IP address, their device and the times. Breaches at large cloud providers do happen. When one does, you rely on the vendor’s security, and on their timeline to tell you. You cannot inspect what was taken, so you may not know which client documents or signing records leaked. Your duty to clients, and any privacy breach reporting, still falls on the firm.
What we can set up
- Electronic signing that runs on a server your firm owns or controls in Canada
- File sharing with clients from that same server
- Signing records (who signed, IP address, device, times) kept with the firm
- A consult first, to see if it fits how your firm works
What is Docker?
Docker is a tidy, sealed package that runs the app on your own server. We use it to set up each tool cleanly on the server your firm owns or controls.
